I still have a problem with the non existent chassis no. I have been told where it should, which it aint and I have also been told that after 98 the no's where only to the right of the rad. and in the lower right side of the windscreen. Prior to this it was by the rad and right side of chasis forward of the spring turret. I now have to go to the Guards (police) and get them to write a letter statting that the car is not under any investigation and they will be happy with this. As far as the corroded brake lines are concerned, I asked my local German land rover mechanic for a price. With me suppling bits, 30 euro a pipe. After thinking about it for 2 seconds and asking him to confirm the price, I drop it off in the morning. Feeling well pleased, I went out today to get some hay bales, and.............. the cam belt went in the 110. Such is life. :doh:

Mine`s a 98 from Doblin, then Galway. It took the bunch at NCT hard work and a grinder but it was eventually found front right about level with the wheel tread roughly 16 inches in front of the bump stop. I coould not see/find it without a grinder.

I had the power washer on it today and scraper. Found 4 holes where a slightly larger than credit card size plate could have been bolted on but thats obviuosly no good as it should be stamped on. Will check again tomorrow, 16in in front of bump stop. Cheers

The VIN can be gleaned from the Becm if you are absolutely desperate. Not a 100% safe bet as someone could have changed the Becm and lockset, though unlikely.
If it's a UK import, surely the Revenue would have a record of the change.

Take it to your local Landy stealer. Each Range Rover has a 'secret' number which your dealer will be able to examine and confirm as genuine.

thanks for the suggestions but the nct station are adament that they want to see a stamped no. on the chassis where they would normally expect it to be ( presumably to prove that the chassis dosent belong to a stolen vehicle) or a letter from the guards to say that we are the registered owners and the vehicle isn't on their computer as stolen. Easy enough you might think but these country guards think that us townies are trying to pull a fast one. Without the letter or no. we cant get an nct. I might have to buy a stamp set and put one on myself.

I've just been told I have to make an appointment with a guard from traffic so he can crawl under and see if its a ringer.

Set it to low height with him under it and he might get the vin stamped on him

Sounds good but i've had it castrated, the motor that is.
Anyway, while my friendly local German land rover specialist was changing my brake lines, he found the chassis no. stamped on the off side chassis rail about 10in. behind the front spring. Granted it was under some road film crud but the blokes at the test centre said it wasn't where it should be. That was because they where looking on the wrong ....ing side. All that grief for nothing.
Booked in monday for re-test, they are gonna get some stick,(after they have give me my test cert.)
