Hello,

My handbrake has decided that it's going to start sticking (1986 2.5 N/A with drum transmission brake). How do I adjust it off a notch? I've heard about lubricating the cable and joints but there's a big square bit sticking out of the transfer box side which obviously turns. Will this make any difference?

Thanks

yeah thats the adjuster. It turns in 90 degree notches. If its only started to stick though, its cos the other end is jammin', and the adjuster wnt do nothing.

Spray some WD40 on the cable and where it goes into the backplate.

dont back it off, coz if it frees its self you will have little or no brake.
undo cable at the bottom,if it moves freely while working the handle,
you will need to be inside the pan,if your lucky wd40 will sort it out.

Hi Pos
How is the engine going now I heard you had some problems just after the rebuild. My timing belt has gone now and bent about 5 pushrods only hoping I havnt done any valves in though.

T'old N/A's running fine at the moment. Saying that it always has and does, but sometimes something blows and it just spews oil out all over the place. I've got everything torqued properly now though so there's no chance of that again! I'm hammering it mind, 65-70 for 3 hours straight, twice a weekend every other week pretty much! No problems.

You'll more than likely have just bent a few rods, nothing too major!

took mine apart and if you do a lot of offroading they fill up wiv mud and ****,give em a good clean out and re lube everything and then should be fine for a while

I dont do much offroading but I do a lot of motorway driving and the wet salty spray wont have done it any good.
