had the same problem on langers' 110 a bit back, im sure hell put some pictures up in a minute. we used oxy-acetylene. :) a less expensive flame will do though probably.

Its off!!! the fkin thing is off!! :D

After a lot of wacking with a chisel between the hub and drive flange it wasnt moving at all...

So I had to cut a groove on the drive flange for a blunt chisel, so it could have somethin to grip on and going at an angle..
and after a lot of wacking it eventually came off...

Now..why it was stuck you ask..

The bolts had rusted on the drive flange!! that's why they snapped!
once the drive flange was off, I got the mole grips on the broken bolts and they came off the hub really easy..

it makes me furious when people dont spend 1 minute coating bolts in copper slip, it doesnt take much time and makes life so much easier in the future!

So now... 2 drive flanges on order and still have the other side to do, but as only 1 bolt snapped on the other side, it should be easier, can even cut a slot on the drive flange, where the bolt is, to relief some pressure off it..

FKIN LAND ROVERS!!!!! :D

and...the ones that fit jubilee clips without thinking of the parts they still have to fit around that area and then making it almost impossible to get a screw driver in to undo it!

its not difficult is it??? just fkin align the jubilee clip to an area where will be easier to get a screw driver?? :doh:
 
Remember that when assembling anything, give all your bolts a smear of grease or vaseline!

Considering that most of them are torqued down afterwards, they will never come undone or sieze up ... When you want to want to take them off again they will come off easily.

I have done that for more years than I care to remember, simply because some poor **** will have to remove them at a later date ... And that poor **** is usually me!! :D

whoever buys my 90 if I ever sell.. will have a very easy life!

Ive taken the whole interior out - floors, gbox tunnel, seat box - and replaced all screws and bolts with stainless steel and greased all of them

All the suspension has been replaced and everything was greased

Loads of different bolts in the engine bay have been taken for one reason or another and been greased...

I think I might add £100 on the sell price just for this luxury! lol

honestly mate if you can show the potential buyer these new bolts he would be mad not to give you and extra couple hundred purely because of this.

an old land rover that can be disaasembled without a grinder?? RARE ITEM!!
 
it makes life so much quicker when things aint siezed, i was thankful of my application of copper grease when i had to do my post crash stripdown. only took a matter of hours instead of a few days.
 
Hope you didn't buy the stainless bolt kit from ebay 2 people I know did and when they fitted them and they both punched holes in their Diesel tank! Doh!

Yep! that's exactly the one I bought, however, I do tend to check if things fit properly and as they should, so any excess would have been cut... they get nowhere near the tank :D
 
what a load of crap!!

Got my new drive flanges, fitted it and they are too fkin big! the lugs where the bolts go through are wider than the original ones and wont allow for the wheel spacer to fit!

i thought these drive flanges were all the same?
Called paddock spares and they say i definately i have the right part number for the chassi number and maybe that my axle has been replaced with one from another model??
either way they asked me to send a pic and they'll look at it..
but could this be the case its an aftermarket part and therefore not made exactly like the original?

presumalbly frc5806 you bought ,id think it was because of it been pattern part,you could grind edge of to fit ,britpart now only do pattern, bearmach dont have oem in stock at moment
 
I have the same problem with my spacers and drive flanges, each time i need to remove a flange top nip up the bearings or whatever i have to remove the spacer, it is indeed a ball ache, i just thought they were all like that, didnt realise it was only aftermarket flanges that did this, maybe i might just try and find some smaller ones,

Have you looked at the heavy duty flanges? maybe they are smaller as they are more of a machines billet rather than a cast lump?

with one of the front hubs i could crack the spacer off and ended up taking a slither off the inside of the spacers with a grinder in the end so i could get the flange off, but yours look much tighter than the ones i had so i guess this isnt an option for you, will be good to see the outcome of this as i am still looking for a solution.

well, Paddocks looked at it and they reckon its the manufacturer, as jamesmartin says.

They are going to order new ones in from a different manufacturer and see if they are smaller.

for now I've taken all the wheel spacers out till I get this sorted

at least I fitted the new brake shoes, so wasnt a waste of a day... changing the drive flange again will only take 5min...now that isnt fokin stuck and theres copper grease on the fokin bolts!!
 
update on this....


5 starts for paddocks customer service!!

I know there was a thread running on how **** their customer service is but....

considering I had this problem last Thursday, Paddocks said they were going to investigate and order new flanges from new supplier.

Got an email from them this morning saying the new drive flanges arrived and the lugs are thinner as the original ones, they also tested the drive flanges on the wheel spacers they sell and they work fine.

They have sent new drive flanges to me today, at no extra cost and don't even need to send the old ones back!

very good customer service!
