ive recently tried to remove my drivers side half shaft coz the splines are smashed and twisted, ive stripped off all the casingsto the hub but still carnt pull the shaft out?? should i just give it an almighty yank or is there something holding the shaft in on the diff????

Hi,
Shaft is only on splines in the diff, it's probably damamged there too. Try (with the other wheel on the ground and handbrake on) turning it either way with a pair of stilsons to release it. Or weld nut on end and use a slide hammer. Or weld the damaged drive member onto the end of shaft and lever it out.

Nige

no front, ive got everything i can off back to the axle casing and it wont budge!! i havent got access to a welder so should i take off the diff casing and av a look???

oooo! have you tried the slide hammers and wot not?
ave seen them pulled out using another vehicle but thats not to be recommended.

I doubt yule see much taking the diff cover orf and as yer can can't take the diff out with the shaft still in thur wint be much gained by taking it orf

yer might just have to presever with the tugging and shouting approach

ive rang a mechanic whos got one but has said that it might not fit on the shaft as there is no thread on the end of the shaft!! fookin nightmare, thanks for your help tho, much appriciated!!:D
