Hi all - help please?

I've just done about 2000 miles on a family holiday in Italy (7 people I am the only driver...) and the Landy was brilliant... EXCEPT that when motorway driving there is a short grinding noise every time I take my foot off the accelerator and then again when I put it back on. This can be very frequent in heavy motorway traffic :(

The noise sounds like when you briefly drive over the rippled white line at the side of a motorway. It has done it since almost new (April) and only when the Landy is hot..

Any idea what this is or if this is normal? I am getting a bit worried...

Thanks for any help you can give.
Cheers,
Matt

p.s. Incidentally, the old clattering noise disappeared when when I put the correct Ford gear oil in ;)

My 110 Puma used to do the same.
I complained to the dealer and they changed the front diff - they said there was excessive swarf in the diff oil when they drained it to check. But, the noise and vibration was still there.
I complained again but they said they could find no fault.
Gradually, over the next 3000 miles the problem lessened and eventually disappeared, so I don't know really what the cause was.

Have you checked the propshaft UJs?

Well, the rear propshaft is solid (can't "wobble" it or the UJs) and the front one will rotate about 1cm at its circumference (UJs also seem okay).

Could it be the diff working?

The vehicle is only 4 months old (done 5000 miles)...
