Hello,have just put some new grabberAT tyres on my freelander,and after doing about 50miles in the car yesterday i noticed that the tyres were quite warm,tyre pressure is set to 30psi,will i need to up the psi because of the chunky tread or would it be advisable to have the 4 wheel tracking done,the old tyres did not have any wear on them-any advice please---Dave
yes its all 4 tyres,not hot just warm,do you up the psi on yours or these set to normal pressures.as long as its nowt to worry about----Dave
Thanks,the tyres are all new on,i never noticed the warm issue on the old michelins,[could be me being paranoid]will keep an eye on the wear.on another forum it said to up the psi from normal-ie-35,that seems a bit ott to me---Dave

Think mine are at 28.5 or 29psi. Due to feeling the back end sliding out a bit if I take it too fast round corners in the wet. Now I know I shouldn't go round corners to fast, but that was a test to see how the tyres felt. Hence less psi = more tread on the road.

Tyres with chunky tread can warm up. I used to have a pair of vee-pattern Wranglers on a Series III that got really warm, but only on wet roads. I put it down to the chunky tread flexing in use. But that's only speculation.

as above, chunky tyres sometimes make a drone noise when in contact with Tarmac, thick tread creates more resistance (look at a race bicycle tyre compared to a mountain bike)
as the drone is a result of kinetic energy from tyre contact then heat is also generated from increased friction. Nothing to worry about if they are all as warm as each other IMHO.

have you noticed a decrease in mpg since fitting these tyres would like some myself but dont want to loose mpg!!!!!

Same question as goughy.. has your MPG taken a hit?
And how much each were they? My MOT is up at the end of sept, and my front left may well be an advisory as it looks a bit shallow.. Im well tempted to get some A/T's (especially with winter on the horizon and maybe bad weather), but dont want to smash the MPG of my freelander.

Hello, not noticed much if any difference in MPG,bought mine from blackcircles-fitted at tyre-spot-total cost for the 4 was £375 supplied and fitted..tyre spot was about £35 a corner dearer again-guy there said they could never match black circles prices!.black circles come up cheapest i could find for size 215/65 r16 tyres.Hope this helps.

Chunky tyres= less traction on pavement so will slide on the corners when goosed. Just use less of the fat right foot
And the psi seems a little low, need more air when carrying a hippo loadi have upped my psi to 31 and the car runs better,tyres not getting too warm,tried them out today over on the farm and found them very good off road,will give them a real test when the winter comes as the farm i shoot over is bloody rough in the winter and even the farmers izusu gets stuck!---cheers Dave
