LOL, I did that with one of mine too. Others just cut them off and forget about them. Don't think it makes much difference.

I noticed it was loose when I was working on the car I didn't think it would fall off.
I have just adjusted tracking and it feels so much better

Ok, so after a day of pootling around, minus the hiccup..... I noticed I have a ticking noise occurring over 30mphit is speed linked so guessing that it may well be transmission related.
I have also changed the clutch master and slave but still have a clutch thats on the floor, I saw @Alibro 's modification but surely I shouldn't have to be doing that for a brand new hyd system. I put some penetrating fluid in the lever hole as well.

Is it a PG1 box? If so then it can be lost motion in the master pivot and, or the slave bracket flexing. It could also have air in the hydraulics. The only way to remove the air, is to have the master hung above the slave. Then push the slave piston fully into it's bore. Let is come out again slowly, then push it back in again. Repeat this operation have a dozen time, then refit the assembly.
If is a TD4 gearbox, then it sounds like it needs bleeding

So the ticking noise over 30mph.... it was some black masking tape that I used to hold the damper in place while the tiger seal went off, it had detached at one end and was flicking under the car!.... doh

Did you leave the plastic cap on the slave cylinder? If so there have been quite a few people complaining about the same thing in the past and I never discovered the true issue but some thought the master/slave needs to be hung for a day or two with the master above the slave. The difference between one on the floor and one correct is only a couple of mm so poor quality parts might also be a factor.

Yeah, I had read before about leaving the cap on and not touching it, I hadn't read about letting it hang though. I'm going abroad for work for three weeks next week, might take it off before I go and leave it hang and bleed itself while i'm away.
@rob_bell my first worry was the vcu! I straight away thought oh ffffff................flip, there goes the IRD. Which reminds me, OWUT at some point today!

Well me and the hippo Went for a 140 mile round trip to Plymouth and back.
Considering the HG has gone, there was no overheating, although I did have the heaters on full blast.
I love the ride of the freelander, feels stiff and a pushed it through a few corners and was very surprised at how the freelander feels very composed. surprised me after driving my Golf GTD for three weeks.
BUT the lack of power is soooooo frustrating, i know it doesn't help with the HGF but my God, definitely needs turbo/supercharger!
Oh and the clutch needs bleeding :/

Yeah, it will definitely be getting some new HT Leads and plugs once it's all back together, that may help improve things.
