The obvious answer is a 101 ;) Biggest road presence, biggest boot, biggest smile and biggest fuel bill! :D

The heater is also fantastic.

I've got about 2.5K to spend - I've been looking at early discos - they turn up in some odd places! The current Mrs C had one as a family car when a kid so she rather likes it. Decent series ones seem so dear now.

Stumbled upon it whist a list of common faults for my brother who is intent on buying a horrible Lexus.

Oh well - Can you get a decent series for 2.5/3K As long as it only goes wrong a couple of times a year I'll be happy!

Series 1s or "series" discoverys? Ie disco 2.

you'll get a ruddy nice disco 1 with 2.5k with ruddy good heaters and if you hunt long enough heated seats too!

Should suit you down to the ground cos I guaruntee somat will break :D namely the heating and the heated seats

Series is what you need, all the rest are pretenders and wannbe's...and the owners are in fact extremely jealous of our Series REAL Land Rovers, but refuse to admit it.....:D

Having owned a series 1 and series 3 for a number of years it makes you more appreciative of how Land Rovers have improved over the years, I wouldn't have a Series LR as a gift. So unless you're a sadist (there's quite a few here ) go for something that'll keep you warm and dry with a bit of comfort.

How many miles will you be doing?

If not a lot and no motorway driving for hours, then get a series of defender :D

It's winter... who needs creature comforts, sit on a hot water bottle.

Depends what kind of miles you drive and how comfy you want to be. Series would be an obvious choice but you will be cold, rattled to death, uncomfortable and probably deaf. But all thats ok because thats a "real mans landrover":rolly:

You could get a RRC where you have comfort and will eat up the miles and still feel like your in a classic. I wish i could drive mine all day every day but it costs me £30 a day to drive it to work and back:eek:

well for 2.5 k get a decent disco there are far to many defenders and series in that price bracket that are mutton dressed as lamb try and aim for a 96 or 97 tdi with no sunroofs and no rot around the windscreen good luck

Splendid splendid. About to take the plunge - will post some photos of the bloody thing when I've finally got it. If I ever do actually get it!
