According to Nanocom my IAT is reporting way out - reporting -5c when it's more like 20c

If it was a cheap sensor i'd just replace it - but it isn't (£100+!) - so, what effect does it have? - a quick google suggests it causes the ign to retard for cold start - any other effects? is it worth changing? is there a more common sensor that can be used in it's place?

Lots of questions sorry!

Greg

I have noticed some readings from nanocom that are way out.
Is there a problem with the car?

I would think that if it was working to - 5deg then it would be running like a bag of fertiliser.
I think it is just one of those nanocom readings that don't make sense!
Is it gems or thor? If it's thor, I'll have a look at mine next week when I get home and see what mine reads. I've got a brand new MAF on mine so it should be right.

This is very common nanocom always reports this temp wrong on gems. Leave it plugged but definitely don't change. The only effect it has is if the temp exceeds 45degrees c or another sensor has packed up ie it's a backup. This sensor is identical on the x300 jag( and 95 96 xjs) so may be a cheaper source but really don't fret. The battery voltage is also reported wrong at 16v
