the serial number on my series 3 has been over stamped with the letter s , has anyone seen this before

yes it was often done when reconditioned and number no longer represented the suffix of the parts now in the box, a new number on a plate or sticker was fixed to box bell housing usually

Can't see no sticker or plate , only think I can see on the bell housing is a pl50 stamped on it
