So just changed my clutch (gearbox on a jack) and was hoping to drive it, clutch nicely depressed I start it and realise I can't find any gears. The lever is lose with no apparent gears to select...

Reading some threads it looks like the selector pin, however looking at RAVE I think I have the type D gear lever which is called remote? Any how I am confused as the note says replace the whole remote selector unit...

Any advice much appreciated as I like tinkering with the mechanics but would also like to drive it :(

Thanks

If it is this Remote gear change - Type D I'm struggling to find anywhere I can buy a replacement, any ideas appreciated...

Thanks

Hi mate, I just replaced the selector pin with a M8 bolt and locking nut, nut goes on top as theres not enough room to get the bolt in from the top. Took about 15 minutes and gearchange now like new!

Thanks for your reply, did you have to take the remote change selector off the top first or could you go through the bottom of the gear lever? Thought I new where the selector pin was but not 100% sure...

Thanks!

So it was the selector pin in the end... I took the bolts out of the chassis cross member (while on a jack) lowered it down (had to remove rear connection on exhaust pipe), then unscrewed the area around the handbrake and gear lever which gave me a whole straight through to the remote gear selector housing.

I found the 4 bolts holding the housing on all loose, then when I got the top off I found what looked like mastic around the join, plus the old selector pin had apparently been welded on! The weld had obviously sheared which was the cause of my gear selecting problem.

If it hadn't of gone when I changed the clutch it would have gone at an even more inappropriate moment, so now I am glad it did go. Replacement pin now ordered.

Thanks for everyones help!

Cheers
