hi chaps, anyone know off a gearbox reconditioners in essex/london.
Gonna treat myself to a new gearbox and transfer box for my 110.
cheers

Are you a rich man? no your driver a old land rover :D
Buy s/h and fit it your self and then you could take the family abroad on a holiday with the money you saved. :)

I would buy secondhand, if a good unit came along and I knew the seller, otherwise I could end up with a unit worse than mine.

Eday check before you buy
LT77 is an old type box and people want R380 boxes so lots of cheap LT77 boxes knocking about.
I've got a really good one in a old scrap RR which is no good for me as I use a R380.
It's in Cambridge if your interested ?

i thought that rr lt77 were like disco boxes and wouldn't fit defender .

I'am not sure , I did sell another LT77 from a RR to a bloke with a disco and he had to change over the rear section before the gear stick would fit.
I have taken the gears out of a LDV van box before and fitted them in a RR gearbox, so most parts fit or can be made to.

early rrc long stick boxes are so called as they share same gear stick assembly as defender but wont fit defender lt77 as bell housing and input shaft are too long ,later 77s on rrc are exactly the same box as disco

That's right it was an early RR with a long gear stick I sold to the disco man.
The box I have in the scrap RR is the later short stick.
Input shafts can be changed over.
All good fun :D
