SHORT ROUND

on the way home from work today the gearbox started to make some strange grinding/crunching noises so stopped got out and had a look underneath no obvious signs of anything wrong on the outside so drove her home very slowly hoping to god that it did'nt give up on me completely. dropped all the oil and found some metal filings in the oil also a sonic the hedgehog style haircut on the drain plugs. so i cursed alot and packed up the tools for the night. the gearbox will be removed tomorrow and see what i can find. will take piccys of the box once its out.

Good luck HOPE IT AINT TOO BAD AND EXPENSIVE,,i have a bit of a rattly loud gearbox at mo ,but everything works as should, gears select fine..shall be checking my oil again soon ,but was fine last time i checked.and it had the noises then too
mines lt77

dunno but i was hoping for a little longer than 2 weeks before it threw any problems at me but hey ho its all part of owning a land rover i suppose :D
so if any one local is to me has an lt77 90 gearbox kicking around then i may soon be in the market for one depending how bad mine turns out to be.

right before anyone says it i forgot to take piccys although it did'nt show any signs of failing at all on the outside but did sound abit dodgy :( once the box was off and the transfer box had a slight rumble to it. so i have taken the gearbox over to a mate cause stripping boxes ain't my sort of thing :D so i guess i will find out tomorrow what expense is to come.

You could of taken a pic of the oil thats over your garage floor from that disco box I left you with lol .

no oil on my floor lol dumped it on your drive lol drained the rest out and the gears in it look good so who cares about abit of oil on the floor.
