Well got into the gearbox that I got from ebay cheap. That's why it make a noise in reverse then.

Needs to visit a dentist!

Assuming you get all the swarf out, is it a relatively easy/cheap fix?

new layshaft and rev idler ,later lt77s had longer teeth on l/s and rev idler to give better engagement,it was an extremely common issue with earlier lt77s
