Sorry if this turns out I'm just being a numpty but I've got myself a bit confused. I was under the car this afternoon changing the steering damper when I noticed a threaded hole in the bottom of the gearbox bell housing, no plug, just a hole? I thought at first it was the filler/level hole but it is at the bottom of the housing on the flat part, so physics says it will drain to this level and isn't the filler hole.

Looking from under the car you have the oil sump/drain plug, then working towards the back the steering damper then what I think is the main gearbox with the 'hole' which is next to the cat. What's confused me is if this is indeed the gearbox drain plug then I've been running without gearbox oil for the last 4 months?

Or am I being a numpty and it's some kind of breather/vent?

Any help appreciated...cheers

Just search wading plug for info on the plug that's fitted if you go wading and removed at other times.

Ahh thank you. I've just read that you plug the timing cover and the flywheel housing, so what I was looking at was that the flywheel housing?
