Happened to be having a look around on Rave earlier and noted that the P38 has an acoustic cover for the gearbox and engine. They seem to look more like they offer protection more than any acoustic sound proofing. Mine seems to have both covers missing so I was wondering if anybody has any experience of driving a diesel P38 with and without these covers being fitted? Should I try and get a set?

regards,

Dave

The only acoustic cover I know of on the P38 engine is on the Diesel and is the one under the Intake pipe (the one that says INTERCOOLER on it - the acoustic cover is under this)

I am pretty sure the THOR didn't have one and the GEMS certainly doesn't

They are there to keep crap from dissappearing into the gulleys and valleys down there....as for acoustic dampning - does little....

Mine have been off for a couple of months : changed gearbox filter in the hope of fixing a b%^&*d hearbox : surpisingly it didn't work so I've got a new one but covers not on yet.
There is a difference : road noise and, surprisingly, engine noise seem more pronounced. Might be my fevered imagination but you did ask.....

Mines got the cover under the intercooler in take pipe. The bits I'm on about are as follows,

Page 76 on rave, chassis & body. Engine acoustic cover, Gearbox acoustic cover.
Service repair 76.11.06 & 76.11.13

Dave

I've not got the engine one (no idea about the gearbox one): Jan 2002 DHSE

But, for various repairs it says "remove engine accoustic cover (if applicable)" So I guess it's not standard...

They are more of splash guard, mine are both missing and glad too nothing but a hindrance when wanting to work on car and having to undo the fiddly rotted screws.

If you've still got them and want to part with them for a few beer tokens let me know.
Would like to try them if for no other reason than out of curiosity.

Regards,

Dave
