Just coming back from holiday today and I broke down, I was at the lights, tried to pull off and it sounded like it had popped out of gear, so ree select 1st, nothing, 2nd, nothing, difflock, nothing, etc, etc.

Had to get recovered back home.

In gear I would expect if there was a problen at either end, one of the props at least would be spinning. The hand brake works so the back must be ok.

I am guesing that the gear box is shot.

Would you guys agree? and does anyone have one they want to sell

Cheers

not gearbox - but gearbox to transfer box drive - about £40 - easy job to do, but make sure you get the correct one.

Sirus, I will come back to you.

Mad, explane more, obviously I will need to get the old box out to see where the real fault is...

I dont think yu do, but I have never changed it - I believe it is the intermediate drive which goes between the gearbox and transfer box. It can strip the splines on the output shaft of the gearbox, which isnt good news tho.
Others know more than me and I am sure that they can give more info.

If you have stripped the splines of the main gearbox output shaft then it is new gearbox time.

You can check this my removing the round inspection plate on the back of the transfer box just to the side of the handbrake drum. 6 or 8 bolt over IIRC.

Take that off and look inside. You will see a gear with a splined shaft inside of it. Should be pretty obvious if they are stripped.

Or.....chock wheels, handbrake off, diff lock in then spin a prop shaft. You should see gears move but gearbox output shaft (center splined bit) will not move. If this is that case then the splines are definately stripped.
