I think, and we will stand corrected im sure, that you undo the sump plug on the G/ box side and if it pours out your ok, no way other to check.
Some people say it never needs changing, I did mine at 80k and it really played up afterwards, make sure you get the correct amount back in as i was a few liters short and the car really bugged about, its a right bitch to do even if your handy around cars.
two man job, lump of hose and a funnel, one chap underneath and the other filling up funnel.

Thanks for the info but I think I'll take it to someone who knows what there doing
trust me im a mechanic and ive owned 2 Discos with autobox and done many oil changes ok this is simple vehicle on level ground or jacked up level with the engine running at operating temp autobox in neutral remove the filler plug located on the front of the autobox oil sump and oil should be flowing out if not then top up with dexron II or III . DONT do what BIG MATT did the engine must be running and at temp only then you can get the correct fluid level .

Just to add to what defcrazy said: with the engine running you need to cycle through all gearbox positions BEFORE undoing the fill plug to test the level.
