Hi, can anyone give me the lowdown on gas shocks?! I've noticed a massive variation in price, what i'm not sure of (having never been near a gas shocker) is whether they can be re-gassed? seems to make sense that they should be re-gassable, but then that would mean never having to change shocks, unless they break - shocks for life? surely not in this consumer society!

For the time-being i'll just get a set of cheap ones since i'm a bit strapped for cash... but would like to invest in a good set in the long term - but only if theyre a true improvement - to me there no difference in paying £100 for a set that last a year or £400 for a set that last 4 years!
 
pay what you want britpart yellow gas shockers ive fitted on mine been good for 3 or more years ,better than procomp fitted alot all been good ,havev used tuff back from bearmach there reasoable too but only used them this year but no problems so far or at least no customers complained,have replaced alot of dearer ones with both through not lasting as long as should,there not refillable and wouldnt last a life time if was

Have also used britpart yellow gas for the last four years and they have been fine.A mate recently drove my landy and was impressed by how tight and precise it felt on the road,[bearmach blue bushes and new standard springs fitted the same time]
 
I have had De Carbon gas shocks on for about 7-years and think they are great. One blew its seal almost immediately but I replaced that and they have been fine ever since.
 
Bowler use them ones I think, so if its good enough for them it should be more than good enough for the average landy owner
 
i would recommend de carbon dampers. they hold the road well (for a land rover) i have had a look at the set of dampers on our 110 and have noticed that they can probably be opened and serviced (i work for a suspension company) they are gas pressurised so its NOT recommended without the correct tools. (10bar of oil in your face can make you jump. you only do it once). i have purchased a set of second hand de carbon dampers and will have a go at opening them at work this week. i will also find out if they can be re-valved to make them softer/harder. i will let you know. it would be useful to have a set of dampers that can last the lifetime of the vehicle.
 
opened up a pair of de carbon dampers today, they seem to be similar to our own dampers. they can be serviced and im going to fit silicone gas plugs into them so they can be re-gassed in future.
