get about 320 miles out my 99 petrol xei. thats highway miles.
I have noted better economy since removing my rear prop shaft and VCU unit. (very close to 400 miles to a tank on a motorway journey)
av i missed a point ere ? - whats the idea behind buying a 4 wheel drive motor and then taking off one of the drive shafts ?
do you keep it in the boot just in case you have to drive over some muddy/slippery/rocky bits and jump out and re-fit it before you drive on ?

You haven't missed the point matey.
I got the vehicle very cheap (£550) and I needed to replace my previous car which covered 170K in its 12 year life.
I wanted a british vehicle that I could work on and understand. (Many of the parts are from Rover cars.
Currently I have a problem (noise) from the rear diff. I can't complain as the car has now covered 110,000 miles. I was simply thinking of making it permanent 2WD as I never go off road and dont tow anything.
I dont carry the rear prop with me!!
Regards
Steve
