Hi,

My 1960 S2 is fitted with a 200TD (not TDi) engine of unknown age. should there be an insulator block (thick gasket) between the fuel lift pump and the crank-case?

Why? Because no matter where the crank is set, there is lots of free play (inefective movement) on the hand priming lever. This suggests that the cam following lever is hard against the cam. I changed the pump because of this, the new pump looked different, but feels just the same.

I'm using a paper gasket.

Then there is nothing 200 about it, it's a 2.5TD if it isn't a 200tdi.

Does it pump diesel? They manual lever is just for priming and doesn't give the full stroke - check the pumps are the arms the same length - it should be run with the thick gasket.
