Hi people
With ref to the FBH on a 2005 TD4 Facelift. Am i write in thinking if you turn the heat control switch from hot to blue cold the FBH should not ty to start up. Or is it fully automaticwith no control over it. :doh:

I sure it just works when temp is below 5c

Yes, it's all automatic (unless you "alter" it).

A simple on/off switch can be connected in series with the temperature sensor/switch which is located behind the front grille.

That's what I was thinking to do in the beginning but it ended up that I took the sensor completely out of the picture and control things with an on/off switch. When I put it on for longer journeys the operation stops as normal when water reaches a certain temperature. Thing is that I now can even have the fbh start in mid-summer (to test it out or so). Anyway last winter I had a non-smelling and non-smoking garage when I entered home from a short 3 mile journey where before the whole garage (and house) smelled diesel fumes. My wife loved it however, especially at the days she had the laundry drying in the garage.... So this winter she also was delighted as no more problems like before. And when she's happy I am happy.

There are remote controls/timers you can fit to FBH systems. Our small fleet of TD4s, which live outside, have remote switching to turn on FBH and blower fans to give engine and cabin pre-heating before start-up on icy days. A bit fiddly to install but very useful.

And very expensive.

I looked into a remote for the FBH and it was about £500 (could have been a lot more, I can't remember, I blocked the shock of the price from my mind). Too expensive for me.
