Mine was definitely pointed at transfer box - and markings on diff flange clearly it has always been that way. So I ignored Haynes and put it back that way. If facing forwards and gaiter went then all the crud would head into the sliding joint...? Stick with your instinct I reckon. A
doesnt really matter but they were originally fitted with slide at diff end ,it came from the fact on series rubber gaiter over slide would catch cross member if fitted to the box end ,there are no markings on flanges for props from new
Yup. Definitely slide towards axle. Although it probably doesn't matter greatly, the axle end is the end that needs to adjust its length more. Plenty of grease should keep most of the crap out
T'was just the clean/dirty marking from where the diff flange has that odd 'squashed oblong' outline to it, and it was clearly on the female end of the prop from new. Transfer box end is normal round flange.
Don't see how the 'end that needs to lengthen more' works? Shirley the prop just gets longer, not one end or the other.....?
Anyway - looks like JM (as always) got to the bottom of it, and it doesn't matter! A
