Ok guys

I have a Freeland 2005 (manufactured 2004) TD4. I did start a thread a while ago re problem I was having with engine management light coming on. I took it to have codes read and the only one that came up was speed sensor fault. No further info just said speed sensor malfunction. Since then it ran ok but if I put my foot down the light would come on and it would slow the car down. Once light went off, speed would go up again.

I wasn't sure what to do but it seemed to only do that now and then. Now however, it has died (sort of). I went to a doctors appt and the car started fine no problems. When I came out of the doctors it wouldn't start. It was trying but just wouldnt fire up. I ended up getting it trailered home. Tried throughout the day but just wouldn't start. Dad thought maybe fuel pump. Anyway next day it started but when you try to rev it it was missing between 1900 and 3000 revs! I can hear fuel pump buzzing now (which I couldn't when it broke down outside the docs). It starts now but runs really roughly when you put it under load. I changed oil and put some injector cleaner through it and took it out for a drive. Its fine right up until you put your foot down and the revs go over 1900 then it runs lumpy and rough. Any ideas?

what milage has it done ? if it is high i would suspect either filter is partialy blocked or the pump is on the way out.

Thanks for your reply. Its done approx 140,000km. I'm going to put a new filter on and see if its makes any difference, if not i'll get the pump and see how that goes.

its very difficult to diagnose when not actually there, but what is it like like on tickover ?
a new airfilter wont make any difference,

but to start with , have at look at the following

1, fuel rail sensor ,try to wiggle the connector when the engine its ticking over,
2, possibly a fouled injector, but as it failed to start on you , i would rule this out
3, possibly a fuel pump, give it a tap
4, stuck turbo vane actuator, make sure its free to move
5, map sensor /egr valve/ vacuum pipes/ split turbo hose

report back what you find
