Hi, everyone new to the forum im thinking out a buying a Landrover Freelander TD4 2004+ manual, ive looked into it alot and heard alot of horror storys about the head gasket, electrics etc its putting be off a little ha. just have a few questions for now most of them have been answered
by skimming through the forum.

i know my way round a car as ive built up one before, also replaced a head gasket on a defender 90 turbo diesel before.

1. Did landrover resolve the issue with the head gasket after the 2004 model?

2. what other major faults do they have things i should look out for when buying e.g window mechanism etc? has anyone created a check list. like checking oil in water etc

or should i just stay clear of the freelander all together lol. thats all i can think of for now thanks for any help guys

cheers lee

Hi,

The head gasket problem was on the petrol models, as your looking at a td4 then you won't get this problem as its the BMW doozle engine.
Make sure the drivetrain is intact....i.e. the prop and vcu is on the vehicle you test drive as if they are missing there could be a problem with the ird or diff.

thanks for the advise i will look around the forum and freelander virgin link and will put together a check list for myself thanks guys

TD4 like most modern engines are pretty good as long as they are serviced, yes you can have problems but you can with any car, make sure it has a documented history and go off your instinct, good luck with the search.
