Was the aircon on at the time? The speed shouldn't make any difference to the smell.

Are you losing any oils or coolant?

wot kind of windscreen wash you usin only thing is my missus filled ours up with some and when it got hot under the bonnet we had a gas like smell as well . sussed it out next time I pushed the washer button .
by the way yes she does know shes always makin me wear her g strings they dont arf feckin bind though , but being a gaylander owner you prbably already knew that
