Hi All help needed urgently

I recently bought a TD4 with just over 100,000 on a 2001 plate. Within two months I had a clutch fitted. More recently I was driving along then i had a slight stutter and then it stopped. I pulled over and it would not start. RAC came out squirted easy start and I drove 15 miles ok but not over revved. I Tried to start and it wouldn't eventually got it to a mechanic. So far checked air pipes, fuel pipes and fuel filter. The fault on the computer comes up with Cam shaft sensor and air mass meter. The mechanic says he does not think its the cam shaft sensor and he doesn't think it has air mass meter. Any help would be appreciated with this, is it a common fault.

The cam sensor fault can be set with lots of cranking and no fire.

Worth changing it though for peace of mind.

There is an airflow meter on a Td4 - it is on the rear lh corner of the engine before the air filter.

I couldn't rev mine over 2000 recently. Replaced my fuel pump, I have the later one with a pump In the rear wheel arch, and all has been fine.

Do you get any lights on the dash when this happens?

I have a similar fault. The the service engine light comes on intermittently at 2500 RPM and the engine wont rev past that.
I just replaced the fuel filter. The fault remains the same.
Will look into the fuel pump.

Do you have a pronounced diesel knock as well?

Hi Guys, thanks for all the info. So far I have picked up a Cam Sensor which the garage will fit today sometime. The vehicle does not have a pronounced diesel knock. The sensor cost £30.00 which included next day postage which is a bargain. Will let you know the outcome of the fitting of the sensor.

The cam shaft sensor now fitted but its no better. Now fitted a fuel pump and all the management lights have now gone off, the computer system is not detecting any faults, but its running fine apart from when you reach 3000 revs this time it stutters and a really small amount of black smoke from the exhaust not a lot though. The mechanic is unsure, could it be an injector? It runs so smooth until you reach 3000 revs in fact superbly.

No..... seriously

All the good torque is under there. It's almost a waste of time going over 3000.

No idea what the problem is. It could be an injector. My garage thought the problem was with no4, but it didn't cure the problem. Then they changed no1 as they thought that was, but it wasn't. Then they attempted to take out no3 and that was the problem. Seized in place because it was leaking. Replaced that and it all seems to be great now.

Moral of the story is that it is very hard to identify which injector has the problem because they all compensate for each other.

have a look at the turbo solenoid actuator ?
make sure the pipework is not leaking , ie you are getting full vacuum to the solenoid, also make sure the linkage is not seized
