Got a y reg freelander td4 temperature gauge shoots up when when travelling over 50mph but returns to normal when backed off same happens when going up hill have replaced thermostat no difference except engine heats up a lot quicker checked water in expantion bottle when said problem arises but all seems to be normal help help help:doh:

Check for air lock in heater hose, there is a bleed screw in it by the bulkhead, if it is the same as the petrol ones.

will try that thanks ,would that also be the cause of no heat coming out of the heater ?????

Yes it would, sounds as though you could have air trapped in the system.

Dosen't matter if it's a Discovery or a Micra! If there's a working coolet system with no heat? it means; 'air lock' in system.
