Can anybody tell me the size of the square type gearbox drain plug,like a hex key type but square and what is the tool called

Automatic or Manual transmission? You have a K4 1.8 Freelander it seems from your posts is that right?

Hi, Yes that's correct 1.8 manual transmission

Please note that I do not own a manual transmission Land Rover nor have I seen one in real life (none on this side of the pond)


However this seems like the entire process on what to do (one a different vehicle but it appears to be the same transmission)

MGF MG TF PG1 manual gearbox oil filling

In short a 3/8" ratchet socket wrench without any sockets.

Yes 3/8 square drive , The rear diff has the same plug type .
