may help putting it in the Freelander section.However I have just had mine go. You can get spare subframes, I got a second hand one in good Nick. Took it down to metal then primed it with a rust protecting primer and a few good coats of paint and it's just passed the MOT. Mines 07 at 146000 miles so Def look at a second opinion. What else did it fail on?

everything is fixable with time and money i would say if you like the motor and it is reliable fix it as its a known car you could spend on a newer one and get an unknown box of problems.

Get a used subframe then. Where are you in the country? We can suggest decent independent specialists if you can't do the work yourself
