hi i am very new to this site and i am looking for some help i have two 1998 freelanders one runs like a dream the other is a bag of lets say rubbish it takes a few turns of the key to get it going then when its going i have to leave it a good few mins before i can touch the accelarater or it will just die but when i do manage to get it warmed up enough to try and drive it it will just die unless i let go it is very smoky and will always run fine after 10 to 15 mins i have tried lots of thing s but i am now considering taking it to a scrap yard yes i am that fed up with it. it smells like it is running very rich as well it will not tick over very well either if any one can help please let me no many thanks in advance :crazy_driver:
okay well not knowing if it is a coil pack or distributor model you need to check the ignition system is okay.
if it's okay a look at map sensor and lambda sensor values and also consider injector spray pattern as it sounds like it is dumping fuel in

Ah that's a common fault on all gaylanders, the best, most common and only fix is to remove all valuables from it? Attempt to start it, when it doesn't take out the spark plugs leaving them connected to the ht leads then place one on your tounge and touch the engine while someone cranks it over, after that repeat with all the others then after that take a can of easy start and spray some into the cylinders take special attention to getting the most of it all over the rest of the car, for good measure do the same with petrol too, now using a zippo poke the ignited lighter close to where the spark plug goes in and then run like ####, solves the problem easily, and after all that if you were silly enough to try it then you should seek some proper mechanical advice, got to have a sense if humour on this forum
