Took the caravan out last w/e with my Freelander td4auto and after the engine got up to temp the engine manament came on when going up hills or slight inclines. when on the level or going down hills it went of, I had no loss of power. The air filter pollen filter oil filter and engine oil have been replaced last august. The gear box oil was changed last october.
any idea's

get it pluged into a diagnostic pooter.

Have you had the crankcase breather filter changed recently?

Quick and easy check - does the radiator have enough water in it?

If it's only when going up hill when towing then it is only when the engine is under additional strain which could be an over heating issue.

I may also be completly wrong, i know nothing of freelanders!

Coolant first, then wait for some one one of the old hands to show up and tell you what else has caused the same problems.

I assume you have run a search ;)

Hi thanks for the info. the haynes manual dont tell you where the crankcase filter is can you give me any leads to it thanks Dave.

tis on the top of the engine, just in front of the injectors, remove the engine cover to find it.

be VERY careful of the fragile plastic fuel rail which has to be moved slightly to gain access, they can be very fragile a snap easily.

there are loads of threads on here with pictures of it.

Hi got the crankcase filter and seals on Ebay for £13.00 fitted it yesterday and found that the car pulls away a lot easier and sounds quieter as if it is not labouring, can't believe that it is not included on the servicing. Just got to wait now to try it when i tow the caravan.
Thanks for the help.
