Hi All,

Well the Freelander has done 34k miles now and need the pads changing again. They were done at the Main dealer last time at 17k but its going to be cheaper getting my Porsche Indy to do it this time.

Cars still under extended warrenty so gen parts and a vat registered garage needed.

Firstly can anyone comfirm the part numbers? It says Part No.: SFP100360 Suitable for vehicles to VIN YA999999. or Part No.: LR021899 Suitable for vehicles from VIN 1A000001

Wheres my vin number to check it?

Lastly, im having the drum shoes changed but is it safe to think the Rear Brake Drums will be ok given the cars done only 34k miles?

Im thinking of ordering from Rimmerbros online hopefully thats a good choice.

VIN YA999999 finished around year 2000 & VIN 1A000001 was 2000 & later. Look at your logbook & it's the last 8 numbers in the chassis/VIN quoted.

Rear brake drums should be fine after such a low mileage, my older Freelander has 115k on the clock and as far as I know its still the original drums and they are fine.

vin number is on the front door pilar usually left hand front

Mines on 77k, just renewed my rear shoes & I had to use a small grindstone to remove the wear ridge on the lip of the drum which was causing problems when taking off the drums. In hindsight I probably should have just renewed them, it would have made the job a whole lot easier but they are still serviceable.

Thanks you guys for the help.

Ill check out my Vin and look to order the pads and discs. I think depending on price i might get the shoes changed too but hold fire on the brake drum. Its been such i long time since ive worked on drums i can hardly remember the basics.....

Im pretty sure the main dealers just adjust the shoes rather than take the drums off and clean out all the brake dust on a full service. I always stripped my old drums down every service.

Just make sure you buy decent shoes if replacing. Half worn original shoes will be better than new £16 crap from the likes of Britpart or far east no make rubbish. I got Quinton Hazell shoes for mine for around £30 through a seller on Amazon believe it or not & they are good.

Dont worry, i have to get Gen Parts or it will effect my extended warrenty. :doh:
