1986 90.What vehicle have you got?
Ah mines abit newer, 56reg td5 901986 90.
how do I know where the seals are positioned? Not unknown but not at all necessary so really it is just a matter of finding out where the water is getting in and sealing the leak.
Best way is to have someone play a hosepipe over the front of the vehicle (concentrating on the screen & flaps) and you have a good poke around the inside with a torch, water can run a long way and follow unseen paths so it may take a while but should be very possible to successfully sort out.
Obvious things are things like windscreen seal, windscreen-frame to bulkhead seal, windscreen-frame bracket / hinge gaskets, flap seals, door-seals. Of course don't forget that if water is getting under the bonnet onto the footwells (rubber seal missing between bulkhead & rear of bonnet?) then it could be entering through the pedal mountings.
Ah brilliant, I've only felt one drop so I shall wait for it to get worsehttp://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBwQFjAAahUKEwi2yMChw73HAhVHVhQKHTr-DgU&url=http://www.landroverweb.com/Pdf-files/Manuals/Land_Rover_Defender_Water_Ingress_Manual.pdf&rct=j&q=sealing a land rover defender&ei=CNvYVbakJcesUbr8uyg&usg=AFQjCNEBvNJ0wYfuw2odFUgRyHuxD2KxQA&sig2=EadD8HewCf-fykj87kz6Pw
Link should be to sealing a land rover.
The water usually comes in on mine from the gap round the bulkhead seal. It runs round the inside or just behind dash and down the footwell and pedals.
Just needs sealing. Then you will find the next leak lol
