Thanks Waldershelf and arc. Food for thought. The rest of the foot well is solid, in fact I was surprised when I put my thumb through it. I might go the route of just cutting the bad bits out. I don't want to take the bulk head out. On the other hand I want a job done where I don't have to come back to it.
Cut out the rot and then some more, weld in a patch of nice thick steel, zinc primer, top coat and waxoyl underneath it will last for ages.
