Cut out the rot and then some more, weld in a patch of nice thick steel, zinc primer, top coat and waxoyl underneath it will last for ages.

Have done this relatively recently myself. Driver's side was much worse than in the pic. If I remember correctly I used 22 gauge steel to cover the void left by the rot.

might have to do mine soon, havent had a proper poke, but they look abit ropey. for some reason the vertical bit that joins the bulkhead/door pillar looks worse!?

i usually cut the rot out and eld in a patch, remember part of the foot well is double skinned. Cut the rot slightly bigger than the patch so you can Butt joint it, then use a high current on your welder and do the run like a series of spot welds. You will get good penetration without a big build up on to then all you have to do is give it a quick lick with a flap disc and paint. The patch will be pratically invisible, well mine are. Ooops forgot im a class 1 coded welder to trade

we replaced a mates when he was re-furbishing his. have em out clean it up and weld em in, or get them out and welf the edges of the footwell so theyre nice and square again and bolt the new ones through that. take your pick

I have faith in my trusty steed. Its never let me down yet even after 21 years of neglect. I can't complain at that. I doubt my Renault will last that long. lol
Beside, I enjoy driving my Landy.

Thanks for all the tips guys. Lots of useful suggestions here. I will have to post some pic's when its done. My replacement foot wells should arrive on Tuesday. That takes care of next weekend.

From what I can see without getting my hands dirty I think I will just cut out the bad bit on the drivers side and try welding a patch in. Hopefully I will be able to do that without having to mess about with all the peddle connections.
On the passengers side I will replace the whole thing.
