My fob has stopped working
I changed the battery but no joy
Checked the fuse just in case but that is fine
I can unlock and lock the car with the keys but whats the point in doing that;)

Anything else I could, should check before I buy a new FOB?
I had no issues with it working before apart from a dying battery.
Just went from one time of using it to the next
Wasn't in the car for more than 5 minutes
 
check the micro switch's inside the solder joints do break
you will not need a new fob if its the older 2 button fob a2nd hand one will do the job
if you are around rothwell at any time and it is the 2 button type i can re-programme one for you i can also test your old one to see if its sending out a signal

Couldn't find it in the handbook so I googled it and found the info on another forum :eek:

Both my fobs stopped working yesterday after being parked up overnight. Tried all buttons on both fobs several times but nothing!
Opened the driver’s door with the key and the alarm went off – Put the key in the ignition and started the engine, turned it off and got out. Tried both fobs and all buttons worked again.

Had the same recently with the HDC warning light flashing. Turned the engine off, locked the car, left it 5 mins and then started the engine again and the warning light has been off ever since.

Find it hard to believe this is a permanent fix though?

Computers do suffer glitches.
Although in this instance I suspect you alarms radio was picking up a repeated signal, this boots up the alarm ECU. Iirc after a few boot up sequences in a set time period without receiving the correct coded signal the alarm ECU shuts down the radio receiver to avoid battery drain. Obviously your remote will stop working so the key is necessary. Once you turn on the ignition the alarm ECU returns to normal operation and the remote works again.
 
Thanks for the explanation Nodge and yes, I can see that makes sense. Shall have to be aware of not blipping the fob multiple times just to be sure it's locked.
 
Fobs stop working for a bit after pressing them 16 times. Theory being it will stop the lock motors overheating. It's also possible to unlock yer heap and it may not remove the immobiliser propper. When turning the key in the ignition it will sort this out for you. Try sitting in the car and lock it with the fob. Put the key in the ignition and turn it. Doors will unlock. I do agree sometimes glitches happen. If something isn't right at the time, it may do all sorts of strange things.

I discovered the radio shut down thing by accident. I bought an outdoor thermometer that transmitted is signal to an inside display. I found the day after I fitted this thermometer my MG stopped unlocking on the remote. I did some testing which concluded that the remote only stopped working at home. I thought that maybe this thermometer scrambling the remote so I took the batteries out. Result remote now works again. I did some more research into why, which I discovered that the radio signal was causing the alarm ECU shut the radio receiver after a short while. There is a security point to this shut down too as it prevents someone blasting random codes at the car hoping to get the correct one by chance.
It's amazing how complex these ECUs are today!

All sorts (non-licorice ;)) of spurious radio signals can upset the remote gizmo.

If a park at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary my remote doesn't work due I believe to the strong signal from the nearby Ambulance Dispatch Centre.
