theres a metal strap held on with 2 m10 nuts and bolts across the bottom of the spring that holds it to the axle
 
Yes, theres a plate holding the spring to the lower spring seat, the seat bracket (which is attached to the axle), and all that is held in by two bolts. (nuts are underneath, heads are inside the spring and round off easy)

Changed my rears this weekend. I'd been spraying it with penetraition oil for a week. i bought new springs and heavy duty plates, cos i had to cut through the springs, plates and head of the bolts with the trusty angle grinder

putting the new ones in took alot of elbow grease, 4 spring compressors, and a crow bar!!!!

did the same at the weekend, used a 10 tonne overhead crane, my tow hitch and a big boot on the axle:D . top job then i started the front and did a bit of damage to the bumper lifting it with the crane:rolleyes: .
job done in under 2 hours:cool:
 
yeah..ours used 3 axle stands, 3 jacks, a load of spanners and sockets,......and a bloody big mallet with a little help from a crowbar (good old blue :D) were gonna get our local landy garage to fit the front ones (but not dealers)

oh and it took all weekend!!!
 
after the mishap on the front bumper (my fault, i made an adaptor to lift off the chassis but got side tracked measuring up and made it 40mm to short and the sling i was using creased the bumper slightly) i just used a trolley jack, a scissor jack and spring compressors , oh and still used the big boot to force the axle down to fit the spring. first time i've done the springs and shocks and was surprised how easy it went when i got the knack,
oh and if you are fitting heavy duty front spring clamps with the hooks on you have to fit the spring with theend of it at 10 o'clock as you look down at it.:rolleyes:
guess who has to turn the springs round at the weekend
 
Thanks, I'm putting new spings on as the one of the front springs is failing.
I've got the front's off (they came out easy enough) and was thinking of a 25mm lift for the new ones, this means chaging the rears as well.
Just wondered if they came out as easy as the fronts.
(I put some big cable ties around them while compressed ;) )

The back one's are easier. just unbolt yer shocker , unbolt yer spring clamp and jack up the body as far as yer can

Yah, ours were just thicker than normal rear ones, with better bolts, no hooks though..... but when i did it, i didnt notice the different compression at the top and bottom, and the paint marks..... so i put it in upside down, would it fit, yes! would the spring clamp go in, NO!, how long did it take to get the F***ER out, about 3 hours cos the compression things i had were terrible, and the 2nd lot i got were too short. Couldnt win. I'm never doing this again, unless i have a jack that lifts the chassis higher.

Or just the local indy, they like me lol

As mentioned earlier just undo the bolt on the shock absorber, jack under chassis and the springs can be fitted by hand (no compressors ect).

I can fit my 2" lift springs the same way bags of room, watch out for stretchiiiiiiiiiing the standard rear rubber brake pipe when doing the offside.

Thanks all, I ordered the spring kit yesterday at about 3ish and it arived this morning at about 10.30!
Last question as the rear springs aren't out yet, which are the longer springs front or rear?
 
Easiest way to fit springs ive found is when you have rock slidders undo the bolts holding the base plate on if they wont undo shear the bolt with hammer and cold chizel. BiG Chizel Big Hammer. Jack up one side of the landrover with a high lift jack until the springs pop out, remove said spring jack up a bit more to add new springs..

do make sure both wheels are chocked both sides on the oposite side to your jacking landy does get to a serious angle but is fine.........

and repeat........
 
Well done you fitted that faster than we did, although i've jsut remebered the anti-roll bar lol never mind.

Well, if your springs were old they'd not be as springy, so keep that in mind, yes you might have your lift, but you also have brand new springs too

The back of mine looks like a hotrod cos i aint done the front yet lol
