Has anyone fitted a fire extinguisher in their P38?

I've been advised its better to keep it in the cabin and easily accessible rather than in the boot but can't decide on a place for it that's not going to get in the way or look awful. Am looking at a 2kg jobby, 16" tall, 7" wide at the trigger and grip. About 14" circumference. Best I've found is lying horizontally at the bottom of the front passenger footwell (sort of parallel to the pedals on the driver's side). But it does cramp up toe-room. So where have you fitted yours and do you have photos?

Cheers!

Mine is in the boot vertical in the nearside corner behind the CD changer. If you have a fire that affects the cabin, you will not want to be groveling in the footwell, better get out and get the extinguisher. Most fires are under bonnet anyway so going to the boot is no problem as long as the electrics haven't gone. If they have, better let it burn.

Thanks Keith, I was thinking the same (about grovelling in the footwell). Have hit on another solution, two 1kg bottles. One under my feet (just in front of the seat surround in the driver's footwell - never gets in the way as me feet are busy with the pedals) and the other in the open-top carton I keep in the boot with other emergency tools and stuff.

I've got the seatbelt cutter / glass smasher tool where I can reach it from the driver's seat and the extinguisher in the boot. If the car's on fire I want to get out first and then maybe fight the fire from outside. Stick with the bigger extinguisher. The only time I've had to use one in anger I emptied one of them little ones then had to stand back and watch the van burn.

Good advice!

Guys, have a look where LR factory installed those. I installed mine(2kg) at the seat base cover but on passenger side. No passenger ever complain about it since it's not on their foot area and more important, i can grab it quickly and easy.

They are a waste of time, too small to do anything useful, I couldn't even put out a burning motorcycle with one.

i keep 1 in each front door pocket so driver and passenger have access to them , otherwise you only fill em with rubbish . anyone thought of a battery isolator switch ?? :)

Good points everyone thanks. I was thinking of one 2kg unit or else 2 1kg ones. (they also sell 500g ones, about the size of a tin of shaving foam  ) I like the idea of the door pockets. In front of the seat surround is what I was thinking of but on my side (driver's) if for a 1kg. Will go down and check if indeed I can fit the 2kg on the pass side. Keith you could be right, the one time I had a fire it was a shopkeeper who came to my rescue with a full size extinguisher. All I really want is to buy some time for people to get away. I have an elderly dad and also a toddler in a car seat. If either happen to be in the car with me I'd be thankful for an extra minute.

Ridesafe, thanks for the reminder. I need to get that tool, lost mine years ago in another car.

Spend your time getting them out if the worst happens, you will achieve nothing with a squity little fire extinguisher and just waste rescue time. I keep mine simply to comply with the law in some countries.
