After almost waiting a month to get it (due to 3 dvla problems!) we finally got our Landy :)

Picked it up last night, and have spent all day putting the wheels and snorkel onto it :)

Its an '03 Commercial TD5, 1 Farmer Owner, so the body has a few dents and over a million scratches (probably!)

Just sooo happy!!! Woohoo!!

Have you been out for a drive in it after fitting your Insa's?
 
Sure have - on the dual carridgeway!! Man they are loud!!!!! :D

Dont want to take it offroad until i have the wading kit tho, might venture down some local dry tracks tonight :)

I have been working on it all day! the air in pipe was off just before the airfilter box - is that a common thing ??

It sounds like having a police helicopter overhead dunnit.:p

Do you mean where the MAF sensor is? If yes it is quite common for the clips to undo. As you have fitted a snorkel and intend to use it in anger wrap a cable tie (tie wrap) around the clips so they can't spring open.;)
 
Yeah - it does sound like you are being chased by a chopper!!!

Think i might have to upgrade the stereo - was struggling to hear it over the tyres!

It handles ok on the Insa's, I was worried that it would be dodgy, but seems fine :)

Im totally sun-burnt having fitted the bits today tho! Need to get washers to space out the rear wheel so I can mount it on the door....Having looked over the Landy (my 1st landy) I have compiled a list of things to do! Mainly anti corrosion etc etc lol

I figured out the lock stops - pretty simple really, i think that why I like Landys, as you can fix a lot of them yourself :)

Where is the MAF sensor? The clip hose that was undone was the one that goes into the airfilter. I have made it up and all seems ok, but will add zipties like you suggest :)

Looks good. Dont forget to change all your oils so that you know they are OK. If you're going to do some serious wading then sleeve the prop UJs with a cut down tyre innner tube held on with cable ties. It keeps the sand and grit out of them and they last for ever but does not interfere with the articulation. We use that trick in the sands of Africa where the dust is so fine it gets absolutely everywhere.
 
Is it just me or is that one big ugly fookin snorkel? It looks like someones bolted the loch ness monster to the side of yer landy:D

I will take that advice about the UJs - sounds like a good Idea :) I am currently making a list of all the parts I need to service it properly as I dont trust garages! :)

Its is a big snorkel, but its a standard safari defender one!

The wheels are ZU alloys as Ratty says, they are excellent quality when you look at them closely :) They took almost a month to come but are worth the wait - Overall with the Insa Special Tracks, they weigh about the same as the standard steel wheel and tyre combo, so I am gonna mount the spare on the back without a swing away carrier :)

The wheel nuts for the ZU's cost a fortune tho :(

My list of things to do is as follows....

1. Full Service - Including inner tube prop trick ( Cheers Shifty!)
2. Clean and paint underside
3. Fit radio with CD player! (might need new speakers due to the noise of the tyres on the road!! :p)
4. Save pennies for Tubular Bumper and Winch (I already have strops etc)
5. Fit Diff gaurds and steering protector
6. Book a pay and play day!! :):):):) - Cant wait!
7. Ponder a 2" lift??? (with corrected arms etc etc)????

Anyone recommend a good roofrack for a 90?
 
It's looking sweet. Love the wheels.

As you sound like your planning on getting wet I hope you sealed all the joints on the snorkle.

Couple of things on my rear wheel carrier you just adjust the position of the stops, no washers required.

Also rock sliders might be a good idea. Makes good step and protects sides from damage. Not just below but side impacts. This would rate higher in my list than a bumper and winch.

Good point about the sliders, think i will get some tree sliders, to try and protect the already lightly bashed and scuffed bodywork :)

So many things to do.... ;)

My other project (a car) is also underway so im totally skint between the two haha - Bloomin motors!! :p
 
Looking sweet. You might try a NoiseKiller kit to help with the tyre noise as otherwise you'll end up with hearing aids trying to blast out the tyres with the stereo.
 
I am a six week owner of a 90. I am not a huge fan of big wheels.... I bought new standard steels and Grabber tyres to cope with snow and mud in moderation and give a good alround performance (for me)
But those feckin wheels you have fitted are awsome and look as good (without looking OTT) as I have seen.
I am starting work on mine later this week, new body cappings, seat re furb, windscreen out and new seals all around and a paint touch up and more.
Be interested to know how you get on fitting the wading kit and how you marry it up to the snorkel (if you do) as I have one to fit together with some under body protection. Some excellent tips coming out of this thread from experienced members.
I like the tip about the propshaft and the innertube... wonder if any pics are about for 'newbees'?
 
Next time I'm crawling about under mine I'll try and remember to take my camera.
It's not rocket science though.
1) Obtain used inner tube from local tyre shop - cost nowt
2) Remove propshafts and clean and grease UJs and sliders
3) Slide inner tube over the relevant bits
4) Refit propshafts
5) Secure sleeves with cable ties
6) Job done
