Fitted the linkages etc off a 300tdi today to get my centre diff lock up and running, all works as it should including the light on the dash.

I did a fair bit of reading up before I started and found several "how to's" which said the three amigos come on when the cdl is engaged with the engine running and the hdc, abs and traction control are either disabled or work at a reduced rate. This is stopped (if you want) by cutting a black and blue wire at the slabs ecu.

My lights don't come on though! They show briefly when I turn the ignition on so they've not been removed but definitely don't show when the diff lock is on.

It's a 2000 (w) td5 manual. Should this be a cause for concern? Near the diff lock spigot, there's two wires that aren't connected to anything, ones black and blue the other's yellow and green but other wires are connected to the switch and that puts the light on on the dash as it should.

Youre saying that, with the engine running, when you engage the diff lock, the diff lock light comes on in the dash ?.

This is normal.

With the diff lock still engaged, if you turn the ingnition off and then restart the car, you,ll see that the " 3 amigoes " will stay on. Cutting the wire to the slabs unit is what prevents this from happening.

Many say that the cars TC system works with reduced peramiters in this condition, but LR seem to think it was done to alert technitions that may have been doing work on the transfer box during repairs, that the cdl was still engaged. ( as it wasnt a cabin opereated option to start with ).

Cheers.

as said if you engage CDL after the ignition was on the HDC/TC will stay off, if you turn the ignition with cdl engaged they must come on... but if the car wasnt yours from the beginning and you dont know well it's history, it's possible that the SLABS ECU was replaced in the past with a newer unit which were upgraded to not trigger the warning lights with CDL engaged(as on the facelift modells)...as long as the difflock light is on it means that the connection at the TB is the proper one....so IMO don't bother with this issue

Excellent, thanks chaps!

I've read that many different bits of info lately, it's all got a bit muddled! Looks like I've got a wire that needs snipping!

Anyone know if the transmission tunnel plate (with all the rivets) from a d1 will fit? Would like to have all the gaiters etc where they should be
