Hi all, after the hassle of getting my L series project through the MOT I have completed my first week driving to work and back. A few issues to iron out, starts and stops good, engine runs perfect, no knocks or bumps or noises from the suspension or 4wd. Steering wanders a little but looks like the front wheels have too much negative camber so will get that sorted.

The main issue is the clutch. before the last owner took it off the road last year it had a new clutch and master cylinder but now it has started slipping in 4th gear? all the symptoms of the clutch going but it has only covered a few hundred miles since a new one??? the clutch pedal is a little heavy but bites exactly as it should and not too low or high etc... really confused. My thoughts are the release arm could be seizing or the clutch is in bad shape due to standing for so long. Any thoughts??? It doesn't slip all the time I made one trip to work with no slip after it had been slipping for 2 days then the next day it was slipping again. If I can get this sorted I will be very happy with her

it could be oil on the plate or even a little grease could be the oil seal on the end of the gear box hope this helps

Could well be but would only know by taking it out and then may as well change the clutch,

I have just been taking a good look and have found the slave cylinder piston/rod that attaches to the rusty and seizing release arm is not straight, sort of on the squif so thinking the slave may have broken off before and thats why it was all replaced and the bracket may be slightly bent, not sure if these problems would make the clutch slip but maybe they have caused the clutch to wear out prematurely? I have lubed up the release arm where it goes into the bell housing on the outside to see if this improves.

It sounds like you have found the cause of the problem.

Thats a very clean looking Landy you have there! What happened to the other side step?

It's in the shed at the moment, one of the brackets was rusted through on both points where it bolts to the body, Brackets are no longer available so waiting for a left hand side step to come up on flea bay to replace it!:doh:

For a V reg that is very clean, bodywork and bumpers are in very good condition.

The brackets are a known issue so that would be my first check before throwing time into pulling the gearbox out etc.

Try a landy breakers as that side step is quite common so they should have one if you send a picture to show what one you need.

Cheers mate, strange thing with the clutch, I lubed up the release arm where it meets the bell housing and the clutch is much lighter to press and did'nt slip at all until about 30 mins of driving then started again but not as bad, same on the way home from work, no slipping until nearly home.

The pipe from the master to slave cylinder is black shiny plastic, is that normal? seems to be strip clipped to the brake pipes across the bulkhead, thought it should be a metal pipe?
