 hi everyone, I've just bought my first landrover defender petrol 2.5 1993 and it starts fine when cold, but once warm its reluctant to start? any idea's would be great!

the coil might not be happy once it's warm in the engine bay, you could see how strong the spark is cold then check it when its warmed up , if its a weaker spark when warm then it may suggest coil or leads.

I bought the car from a trader, he said it had been in his family and was reliable, he had replaced distributor and carburetor with new, also new plugs and head gasket has been replaced. runs fine but doesn't seem to like starting once its been running a while. Also there is fuel vapours coming from breather pipe from carb after the engine has been switched off.

Change the condenser !

Mine used to do this all the time until I put electronic ignition on it .

Yep just fitted powerspark ignition to mine, runs and starts much better now. It did knock the timing out slightly though so have a light handy just to check it once done. Best £25 youl spend on it.
