Hi.

Does anyone know what's the VIN number of the first diesel P38 to be fitted with the MAF sensor ?
I was under the impression that the MAF was introduced at the same time as the black plastic intake manifold but looking at Microcat I see different numbers for the start of the MAF sensor (WA376580) and for the start of the plastic manifold (WA403804) ? :confused:
 
Haven't seen that many, but never seen a MAF without the plastic manifold & EGR.
EGR was fitted to an alloy manifold on some BM's and Opel I believe along with the MAF.
Why does it matter?
 
Maybe RR used the BMW alloy EGR manifold on some cars until the plastic manifold was introduced. If your alloy manifold failed the only replacement available from RR would be the plastic one. There maybe a service bulletin around explaining stud changes Etc needed to retro fit. We have decried people on Ebay for trying to pass a Vectra or BMW engine off as from a RR in the past. Because of it's alloy EGR manifold. Maybe we were wrong to do that. If i was buying a spare engine would still like to see a plastic manifold though. :);)

Just curious about it, because I've always believed that alloy manifold meant no EGR and plastic manifold implied EGR. My vehicle's VIN is in the middle of that range but I still have the alloy manifold and no EGR, which leads me to believe that maybe Microcat is incorrect.

Just for further information, this all started when I took a look at RAVE about removing the air filter box. The chapter about this is only applicable to EGR vehicles and it states that there are two bolts in the filter box. I then checked Microcat and, for my VIN, there should be two bolts, but in reality there are none, the box just has two plastic "pins" that are pushed into two rubber grommets.
Since I know that the air filter box is different between EGR and non-EGR I believe there's a mixup somewhere in Microcat, since I have the correct box but the VIN numbers don't add up.

Lots of errors in RAVE so I don't see why microcat should be perfect:)
 
Could be a replacement engine at some point
mine has the egr and alloy manifold but I know its not the original engine cos it has bwm stamped all over the fecking thing

Lets put it this way there are NO plastic manifolds as far as i am aware without EGR. But there are alloy manifolds with both none EGR and with EGR. Most alloy manifold engines WITH EGR are regarded as being either BMW or Vectra units.

omega actually, vectra's used isuzu 3.0 v6 td, and the smaller 1.9 and 2.0d:)

Unless someone bought one of those egr blankers so it looks like a non egr as there in no Diaphragm
A good indication is to look at the bulkhead behind the valve box if the egr Solinoid is there and its wires then that's a good indication
Also something to consider someone can change the air intake pipe work and remove maf
