I think we have made good progress with giving me some solid starting points for sorting on-road pressures, so to potentially open up a new can of worms ...How does off road driving alter the pressures I should be running?

the comps i've been playng in latley require a minimum of 22psi per tyre as per LR reccomendations but I have driven to the loca lpetrol station with 9psi 9psi 6 psi and 5psi when these were first fitted to my 90 this was because i was runing late and used their compressor as i needed fuel and trying to save some time.

this was the pressure as they were fitted to an out and out comp vehicle. For CCV more serious comps 12psi is the minimum on the regulations and everyone runs pretty much close to that as poss.

Note for SATS on compacted solid ground wet/dew covered grass at 28 psi (far too hard for the comp) they have bugger all grip try pulling away from a stand still up hill they will spin up very easily. Difflock firmly engaged and had me questioning if difflock was engaged. It was. but it was just SAT 's being SAT's. This caught me out recently and i lowered the pressures. Still not fantastic these tyres were known to be a bit crap on dew/wet grass with a solid base where they cannot bite into anything. Other tyres diamonds worked far better pattern compound or whatever it was a noticable difference.

On most other surfaces found offroad sats are fantastic! Not faulted at all

only down size is they were only about 30/31 inch tyres where as other lesser tyres would be slightly taller 32/33's

A relevant question: My SATs rub on the chassis at full steering lock. I was hoping (once I get my front axle reassembled) it would just be a case of screwing out the steering lock bolt to fix this, but is that all or do I need to consider anything else to accommodate them? It failed an MOT recently as "the wheels were fouling part of the vehicle body".

Lateral thought but why don`t you phone a well regarded independent LR service garage - they should know the right range for your car and tyre/tread profile regardless of tyre make (and I`m sure they don`t look it up by tyre make everytime they check tyre pressures as part of a service otherwise they would be doing nothing else, plus not everyone has four same make tryes on their vehicle).

Unscrew your steering lock stops until the tyres no longer rub.

Its quite common in comps for people to wedge the wheel that is spinning against the radius arm and use it to lock it up through the diff. This can put horrendus strain through the diff tho but some consider it worthwhile when competing. They usually carry plenty of spares to boot.
