v6, auto, 4x4, 92 K mi, good-exc cond. timing belt changed. head
gasket recall not applicable.

my question is, is there any MAJOR 'surgery' that the truck should/may
need in the near future? is the tranny, engine, etc supposed to be
good to go for a long time yet? any other particular things I should
check? i will take it to my mechanic to get it checked out, ie
compression testing, etc.. contingent on sale.

what should i offer for this vehicle? guts and exterior are
excellent, interior is 'good'. a sizeable rip in the drivers seat,
musty inside (owner did watersports). owner is 2nd owner, bought from
carmax 2-3 yrs ago.

thanks again..
cheers

Head gasket, possibly every 50,000 km depending on how hard you drive,
maybe never if your lucky. That recall was a load of bull it's the head
that's the problem not the gasket. That's about it. Rust is the only
thing that gets 4 Runners. If he was using it to back trailers into the
water check the rear brakes and differential oil. Check the 3rd member
for major rust, a hole rusted through mine.

hello again:

also i am wondering about this ticking noise which seems to increase
and decrease in speed with the rev's. drivers side. iow, faster
ticking with hitting the accelerator, and slows down when you release
the accelerator. does not stop when you release it, but begins to
slow down.

owner explained it as due to putting in a fancy air filter, allowing
more air into the engine, somehow making a ticking noise..

i read past discussions on ticking noises that were common pointing to
noisy injectors perhaps? is it a problem?

Does the 95 4runner have an overhead cam engine? Because if not, that
sounds like it could be a collapsed lifter — they often make a ticking
sound in time with the engine.
