300 tdi, \I know its a left handed thread, have had a bar across the water pump pulley bolts , and the fan spanner + bfh on the fan bolt, it wouldn't shift, so bolted a 2 foot bar to fan spanner, and used a bigger bar on the water pump pulley, but then the belt is slipping.

Any ideas?

Also what is the fan nut attached to?????

Which way are you turning it  it goes towards the passenger side to undo

Just seen you said left hand.

It should just be as simple as 32mm spanner on, tap with hammer on top of spanner to loosen and crack off

Doc, thats whats so fecking frustratin, it should be easy!!!

I've bolted a 2' bar to the fan spanner, and the belt is just spinning, tried me BFH, and a 2' pry bar across the water pump pulley.

Can only think of heat, but not sure if it'll damage anything there, or cutting the fecking thing off, but not sure what the fan is bolted to?

think it may be water pump but not entirely sure………some eejit may have glued it with locktite so may be worth giving it a shock with a punch all the way round the nut

knock the spanner with a hammer to shock it off or hit each flat of nut with a long punch etc till it will undo

Plus 1 on that James. I had to remove mine last year so it had been there for 14 years.
My first attempt with a small hammer didn't do a thing, I'm going to need a bigger hammer, so found my club hammer and with a single 'sack' it was free :)

So I would say knock the spanner with a BIG hammer

When I had this trouble, I cut a "spanner" from some sixteenth of an inch thick steel plate, with the jaw gap big enough to go over the heads of the bolts that hold the pulley on the pump. This stopped the pulley turning, and was just thin enough to let the special thin viscous fan spanner down beside it to undue the fan. Tap the end of the fan spanner and off it came.

+2

Get a bigger hammer! mine wouldn't budge with a normal hammer, had to give it a shock with a proper sized one :D

Thanks for the replies, but I think I've really f*****d it up now - see part 2.

Laugh by all means, take the ****, but if anyone can help, I'll be eternally grateful.
