So what was meant to be a quick change a track rod end has become the track rod end has stripped its own thread off and is stuck in the steering rod. Bugger!!

have ya tried shocking it with 2 hammers and then looping a spanner over the end of the track rod end to give you some levereage?

youd be better off with another rod , but for future either remove rod completely and place threaded part over hard object like a vice etc and hit fairly hard all around and along the tube that thread reaches in to ,joint will unscrew by hand if done enough or if doing on the vehicle do the same with 2 hammers one ben used on opposite side of rod to act as anvil

Now that you have it out. What's the track rod like ?
May I suggest you buy a heavy duty on that allows rhe TRE to come out easier. Especially if you copper grease the threads.

Result!!



I couldn't do the thread count thing for re fitting so measured 924mm from centre of steering arm joint to centre of tr. copper greased the living daylights out of it going back in. all good!

On a random point on this, it's the first time I have had a TRE with a grease nipple on it. Are these becoming the norm?

No I don't think so. There are a few places that are supplying them I think they are originating from Partco.
The ones I fitted with grease nipples didn't last as long as sealed for life ones...​
