Hi all,

What an expensive week......four brand new Falken Tyres fitted (£420)..New Timing Belt/Tensioner/Water Pump fitted (£150)..Engine Oil/Filter change.....new Denso Spark Plugs.....Gearbox Oil change....IRD/REAR DIFF oil topped up....

And for next week i have to fit New Brake Shoes/Front Pads......also purchased a new OBD11 Scanner.....(an investment i think)...

Overall an expensive week but worth while....

Hi,
Did the change/top ups myself......had to order the gearbox oil online as i couldnt get it anywhere....i used to be a mechanic but moved on after my 5 year apprenticeship, so know most of things, but i didnt have the tools to do a Timing Belt change hence having to get my local garage to do the belt/tensioner/waterpump..

Hope theres no real problems with the brakes next week tho its the handbrake that sticks all the time....

Then its the dreaded MOT

Aye my gear box oil defo needs done i was debating doing it my self but understand can be bit fiddly so might just get local garage to do it with ird/diff at same time.

The timing belt and fitting etc seems to be very good value - I havent done it on mine but it still seems cheap compared with what I have had done with other cars.

In terms of diagnostics I just saw this on ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=freelander+diagnostics&_sacat=0&_from=R40

Worth it??? Obvioulsy need to find cables/chargers etc.

Hi,
I had been having some problems with a constant whining noise from the timing belt side of the engine, went away when i sprayed silicone on the belt & pulleys SO it seemed best to change the belt/tensioner & the water pump....asked my local garage who have a good local reputation & think £100 was very reasonable......they told me it all looked like the original parts & never been changed :eek:

The scanner i bought from ebay is a 2013 model D900 Universal OBD2 EOBD CAN Fault Code Reader Scanner diagnostic scan tool.....only £25.....every now & again the engine management light flashes amber & she seems to misfire, but then clears quickly & is fine for ages then does it again!!

Just hope the weather gets a bit warmer next week for doing the brakes...
