Excuse my ignorance, but what's this for? and what duz it do exactly?

In the ebay pick its the round think bottom of the cover on the left

The reason I ask is mine is always lose or almost out of position all the bloody time, I never seem to get a good seal on it, I dont like to put silicone on it and glue it in, rather buy a new one that will fit right

it is the pcv valve (positive crankcase ventilation) and allows the engine to breath correctly from the sump up and around the engine allowing excess to return through the inlet tract.
this is the reason you get oil in your intercooler and pipes but is an absolutely vital piece of kit.
the assembly is only available as a complete unit and costs in excess of £100 and is main dealer only.
to remove it without breaking it req rocker cover removal as it clips into the rocker cover if you can pull it out of the rocker cover it has snapped inside the rocker cover.

if he will sell you the bit then bonus personally i wouldnt risk trying to remove it, the reason why yours and many others are like it is the plastic becomes brittle with age due to heat and really doesnt take much to snap it.
as i said rather annoying and expensive when you have to replace the whole lot as you cant buy the bits individually!
so if i were desperately wanting to do it i would buy the whole lot inc rocker cover as i can pretty much guarantee it will get broken trying to remove it! as you need to be very careful and lever the tangs on the inside of the rocker cover and not just try and prize it out.

I did pm him about selling just the bit I wanted, but I see your point, if he wont do that I will buy the lot from him, but I have to say, it looks like the correct cover, but mine isn't black its plain ally with no paint on it, other than that it looks the same
