Hi

After some help...

300 TDI discovery wont turn over. It turns over by hand so is not seized, but the starter motor will only turn the engine very slowly in tiny jumpy increments, if that makes sense. The starter motor is fine, as is the wiring. The clutch is broken in some way as the pedal pushes to the floor and stays in place, and then can be pulled back up and stays in place. The car doesn't lurch forward or back when trying to start, and was easy enough to tow.

Any ideas???
 
Flat battery? Its a very simple circuit, and if the starter motor and wires are okay; and the engine not seized, it can't be too much else.
 
how do you strater is okay windings can fail etc no fluid in clutch res ,remove slave and check it and release arm is stil okay on pivot
 
Tested the battery with a multimeter and is ok.

Put in a starter motor from another disco, which didn't help. Also tried wiring the starter direct from the battery with a switch and it still did the same thing.

Will look into your suggestion with the clutch. Forgive my ignorance, but if the clutch has failed why would the car not move when the engine turns over slowly?
 
quick test is to put neg jump lead from the negative terminal to a nice shiny engine component such as t he thermostate housing (making sure that no cables or if the jump lead cane adrift it would foul any belts/engine parts) just to check your earth leads. Can corrode badly iver time its nit unheared of for the handbrake cable to become a nice glowing earth lead on Disco's
 
if the post above dont work make sure the alternator is free as well and all the other pulleys are free
 
EFI Rangie's were the best without 12V to the amp it wouldn't fire. Cranking you would only get 11.1v so I carried a Nicad pack to link to the coil until it started one of the locals wouldn't have it that his battery was naffed 3 time I took the nicad pack around and each and every time it started first time! until I convinced him to buy a battery.

Because you have the gearbox in neutral?
 
Does sound like the battery. Remember, you can have a good voltage on the battery with no load and that drops to nothing once you start to crank if the battery has a dud cell etc.
If the electrics are all OK then possibly you have a hydraulic lock. Water or maybe diesel. May explain the jerky turn over. Try it with the glow plugs out.
The clutch does sound like the pivot has worn through the release arm.
